Rosary made of threads and a hand-sewn bag of blanket.

The rosary of threads and the bag of blanket are a piece of memorabilia of the Polish prisoners from the Ravensbrück concentration camp. The rosary was made in secret, using the threads of torn stockings, and floor splinters serving as the cross. The bag has initials MM embroidered in red thread.
The concentration camp in Ravensbrück was the main Nazi concentration camp for women, existing from 1939-1945. In the vicinity of the camp, production halls were built where prisoners were used as slave labour by German companies. The prisoners in Ravensbrück included political prisoners (of Polish, German and Sorbian origin), Jewish, Sinti, and Roma women, Jehovah Witnesses, as well as lesbians and prostitutes. The camp saw a total of 132, 000 women and children, of whom approximately 92,000 died. The number of Polish prisoners is estimated at 40,000, out of which 8,000 survived.
