Ross Hoffman

Leo says: "Ross and I had connected on Instagram before to discuss a portrait commission, but I had no idea he was a thorassic surgeon at the Royal Brompton Hospital. I was delighted that through Portraits For NHS Heores I was paired with someone already familiar with my work. We arranged a sitting over Zoom during which we discussed his secondment to the ICU, the difficulty of communicating with patients and colleagues through layers of PPE and his own escape into his creative practice as a potter. The experience finished a few weeks later, when we were able to meet at a safe distance in Battersea Park. To my surprise and delight, he offered an exceptionally beautiful bowl in exchange for the painting. It is a creative relationship I hope will continue long into the future."
