This image from NASA Terra spacecraft shows Rostov-on-Don, a Russian City on the Don River, 32 kilometers from the Sea of Azov. Its strategic location made it an important trading center, early port city, and railway junction. With the construction of the Volga-Don Shipping Canal in 1952, Rostov-on-Don became a port of five seas: the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, the Caspian Sea, the White Sea, and the Baltic Sea. The image was acquired 20 September 2010, covers an area of 42 by 45 km, and is located at 47.2 degrees north, 39.6 degrees east.
