Rotol Airscrews was formed by Rolls-Royce and Bristol Aeroplane Co to develop aircraft propellers for both companies. The company moved to a new factory at Staverton in 1937. Its designs equipped several aircraft in the Second World War, including the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire.
