Royal Palanquin

Gagyo is a royal palanquin whose sedan chair is installed on the saddles of two horses, front and back of the sedan chair. It was used when the king or senior members of the royal family set off on a long-distance procession. One example of this kind of palanquin is Jeonggagyo which King Jeongjo was carried during his procession toward Hwaseong Fortress. The lacquered body is divided into several sections which are embossed with various patterns, such as flowers, vines, bats, the Seven Treasures, and the Chinese character for longevity (壽). Poles are fixed witha separate loop and the tip of the poles is adorned with a dragon head decoration.
