1647

National Palace Museum of Korea

National Palace Museum of Korea
Seoul, South Korea

Changdeokgung Palace, which had previously been reconstructed during the reign of King Gwanghaegun, was burned down during the uprising of 1623, the year of King Injo’s accession to the throne, with the exception of Injeongjeon Hall, the main throne hall. King Injo commanded a nationwide project to reconstruct the palace in 1647, the 25th year of King Injo’s reign. This Royal Protocol records the repair process of Changdeukgung Palace, and had previously been stored in the National History Archive at Mt. Jeoksnagsan. The National History Archives was where nationally important archives and recorded heritage, including Royal Protocols of the Joseon dynasty, were stored.
