Black and white photograph of a Royal Railway Saloon. These kinds of carriages were commissioned and built during British period for the travel of royalty and elite.
After India became independent from the British rule in 1947, Princely States became part of the nation and royalty was abolished. Railways became means of public transport in the Republic of India. It was difficult to maintain and run the royal luxury coaches of the erstwhile royalty.
