Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Waterside, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

The Shakespeare Memorial Theatre was built in 1877-9 but was largely destroyed by fire in 1926. Elisabeth Scott won an open architectural competition and a new theatre was built in 1928-32, with the scheme incorporating elements from the earlier building. Major alterations took place in 1950-4 and 2007-11.
