The Morgan Library & Museum
New York, United States

This drawing is one of about fifty that Delacroix executed of tigers. It most closely relates to an 1829 lithograph, Royal Tiger, and an 1846/47 painting, Crouching Royal Tiger.
The presence of the artist's signature and the existence of a second
version of the same composition document the success of the composition
first arrived at in the lithograph and confirm that Delacroix conceived
of the present drawing as an independent work.
