From Horwich Collection. The royal train, pulled by Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 4-6-0 locomotive number 1514 at Rochdale station, Greater Manchester 1913.
The train carried King George V and Queen Mary to Rochdale as part of their tour of the North West of England. The King and Queen visited several towns and Horwich and Crewe railway works.
On this occasion the royal couple travelled in the carriages provided for them by the London & North Western Railway. These carriages are now part of the National Railway Museum collection.
