  • Viewing Notes: Le Lorraine's style is associated with the 'gout grec', or Greek taste,a term that refers to the rebirth of classical design elements among the French artists working in the circle of Piranesi. In this architectural caprice, Statues and columns stand on the top of a city fountain in front of a ruined classical building. Le Lorraine was an accomplished etcher who worked with Piranesi in the Palazzo Mancini, which was situated across the Palazzo from the French Academy.
