The painting is part of the three scenes of rural life that Baccio del Bianco executed for the bricked up doors of the Room of Night and Day, between 1628 and 1629. A young boy looks out from the doorway, inviting the spectator to look the airy composition in the background. Two noblewomen, richly costumed, indicate a crowded country dancing that is taking place in the back, in the well kept garden of a country villa.
