Sac & Fox Cradleboard

The cradleboards created by the Sac & Fox are similar to those made by the Central Algonquian-each having a movable foot board. The hoop above the child's head serves as a support for a blanket in winter or for a thin cloth in summer each protecting the child's head from weather. Beads and bells were also hung from the hoop to amuse the baby.
Sac & Fox cradleboards were made from the wood of living trees. Cradleboards made of cut or seasoned wood, or of "white man's boards”, were deemed unlucky. Sac & Fox footrests were adjustable to the requirements of the child.
