Framed oil on canvas artwork by famed Australian portrait artist Dave Thomas. By depicting Tendulkar contemporarily at the time of painting and with an image of him during his playing career taped to the wall in the background. The portrait utilises the same compositional structure that Bill Leak used for the 1989 portrait of Don Bradman. Commissioned by Bradman Museum, as part of a series of Greats of the Game, housed at Bradman Museum.
About the subject:
Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest batsmen to have played the game. He holds the record for the most centuries in both Tests and One Day Internationals. He is one of the most loved sports figures of all time.
About the series:
Using Bill Leak’s 1990 seminal portrait of Sir Donald Bradman as an artistic template, Dave Thomas has been commissioned by the Bradman Foundation to progressively execute portraits of the 19 players featured in the Greats of the Game Gallery at the Bradman Museum. The work on Sachin Tendulkar, which he produced shortly after the batting maestros visit to the museum, takes the number of ‘Greats’ paintings on display to four. The artist had a private sitting with Sachin Tendulkar, when he visited the museum in 2014, during the visit to Australia Tendulkar was also inducted as the Bradman Honouree (Bradman Foundation).
