Uffizi Gallery

Uffizi Gallery
Florence, Italy

This altarpiece was commissioned for the family chapel of Nofri d'Agnolo del Brutto in the Florentine church of St. Ambrogio. Attributed to Masaccio are the angel dressed in green and red and the Madonna and Child which stand out for the more vigorous plastic modeling accomplished through strong lateral lighting. The elderly Saint Anne and the other angels are attributed to Masolino. The altarpiece has been in the Uffizi since 1919.
