Museo Nacional de Escultura

Museo Nacional de Escultura
Valladolid, Spain

The figure of Saint Anne gathers all the formal factors that have made Juni a master of realism and expression. The piece is of a woman of advanced age, the artist presents her with a face lined with wrinkles where he achieved, through his refined technique, an excellent softness that make us think more of a soft modeling of hands working clay than the roughness of carving wood with a gouge. Howeverit is the expression of hard concentration, absent and dispirited that hypnotizes the viewer and gives the measurement of the spiritual anguish that provokes it. This anguish, with its intensity, is shown, and shakes soft and slippery clothes full of life that twist in their abundance showing all the tension of the body. In the pleats of these cloths, perfectly integrated, the round reliquary that shows the original purpose of this bust.
