It is signed by the author, Júlia Ramalho, a potter born in São Martinho de Galegos, Barcelos, in the North of Portugal Very early on she started making the "Barcelos clay figurines" in the style of her celebrated grandmother, Rosa Ramalho, such as fantastic animals, sculptures of Christ, "cabeçudos" (big-headed figures, either of religious or profane characteristics), having also created new kinds of figurines, such as the ones depicting the seven mortal sins or the seven virtues.
