Saint Catherine of Alexandria scourged

Corrado de Mochis1974

Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano

Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano
Milano, Italy

The panel depicts the episode of the scourging of Saint Catherine of Alessandria, and was originally placed in Milan Duomo’s stained-glass window V14, found on the southern side of the Cathedral. Created by Corrado de Mochis (Cologne, 1525 - Milano, 1593) based on the cartoon by Giuseppe Arcimboldi (Milan, 1526-1593) in 1556. In Duomo, the panel was replaced – perhaps for conservation reasons – with a copy made by Pompeo Bertini in the 19th century. The original panel is on display in the Duomo Museum; the frame in which the image of the Saint is inserted is made with modern glass.
