Based on 'Saint Catherine of Siena' 1665-70, by Carlo Dolci, DPG242 in Dulwich Picture Gallery. Wilson copied the original, but added a vision of a banana, and a small figure escaping from under Saint Catherine's wimpole. He felt sorry for her with her crown of thorns.
