Projeto Portinari
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Composition in tones earthy, white, gray, blue, black, red, rose, green and ochre. Smooth texture and rough resulting from holder. It depicts St. George fighting the dragon in arid lanscape with figures and sky in the background. In the foreground, on the left, dragon representation standing in profile to the right and slightly turned head up and forward. Ear, eye and nose exaggerated three pointed shapes on the nose, huge open mouth with undulating tongue and sharp teeth. Neck long, winding with representation by black and white and spear stuck with drops of blood running. Feet as those of fowl, parallel; body back up, very long tail, winding resting on the prospective ground to the horizon and jagged on the back and tail suggesting the vertical column as if they were sharp fins on foot. To the right of the composition, São Jorge wearing armor, with spear in his on the right hand and a sword on the left, riding on white horse bareback and saddle profile to the left. It is as if moving toward the dragon, attacking with his spear. The armor is in shades of gray, white and blue, looking up white and red plume on the helmet; also wears rose cape billowing. The horse is resting on its hind legs while the front are in the air. Ground with rocks and tree stumps, on the right. In the background, on the right, three dogs, running side by side, in profile to the left, in parallel perspective. Small hill suggestion three trees. On the third level, the center, five figures, and some women dressed in blue running. Floor on earthy and ochre tones with blue stones and skyline with sky "degrade" from white to medium blue at the top of the composition.
