Saint John the Evangelist on the Island of Patmos

During the Roman Emperor Domitian’s rule, John the Evangelist was exiled to Patmos, one of the small islands of the Aegean Sea, where he wrote The Apocalypse. The iconography of the tapestry depicts several passages of this book: the evangelist is sitting on a boulder, intent on writing, when he is approached by an angel who, as he touches his shoulder, points up to the sky to indicate the apparition of Our Lady.
At the bottom, a monstruous being steals the pouch the apostle uses for his pen and knocks over the ink pot.
