Milano, Italy

The panel is attributable to Cristoforo de Mottis, both as regards its creation and the preparatory cartoon. It is currently exhibited in the stained-glass window room of Milan Duomo Museum. The work depicts John the Apostle, an elongated figure on a boat, and an angel holding a scroll with the inscription “[Q]uod vides scribe in libro / vite et mitte septem ecclesiis", a passage from the Apocalypse. In all likelihood, the work was originally part of a group of panels destined for the large apse window V20 of the Duomo, dedicated to the Apocalypse.
