Saint John, wearing a mournful expression, is enveloped in a mantle. He holds his right hand to his cheek, while his left hand holds a book. His gesture, posture, and expression are similar to the Saint John on a relief on one of the retables in the Basilica of Saint-Denis. The figure may be a modern creation based on the figure of John in the Saint-Denis relief.
