Saint Luke (San Lucas)

Damià Formentc. 1530

Museo de Zaragoza

Museo de Zaragoza
Zaragoza, Spain

This sculpture is one of a pair. The other depicts Saint Mark. Both come from the Carmen Calzado Convent in Zaragoza and have the stylistic features of other sculptures completed by Forment. Saint Mark looks like a figure in the Presentation of Mary from the main altarpiece at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. Saint Luke is similar to the horseman wearing a turban accompanying Christ on the way to Calvary in the main altarpiece at Huesca Cathedral.
