Saint Paul the Hermit

Saint Paul is a saint who lived in the desert; he dressed in palm leaves and ate fruit and bread brought to him by a raven. He lived in a cave until his death, around the age of 113. He is considered the first monk. The saint appears seated with his hands clasped in prayer, a book, a skull to his right, and the raven in the background.

The painting possibly comes from the workshop of José de Ribera, since it is very similar to a work by the artist held in the Louvre Museum. Furthermore, several of Ribera's works were imported to Mallorca in the 17th century.
