Born in Imola in 380, he was the first non-orthodox patriarch of Ravenna, ordained notwithstanding the resistance of the citizens who had proposed another candidate; contemporary, friend and counselor of the emperess Galla Placidia, he died in Imola between 449 and 458, where he was buried in the crypt of the cathedral.
