Saint Pier Grisologo

Born in Imola in 380, he was the first non-orthodox patriarch of Ravenna, ordained notwithstanding the resistance of the citizens who had proposed another candidate; contemporary, friend and counselor of the emperess Galla Placidia, he died in Imola between 449 and 458, where he was buried in the crypt of the cathedral. Probably the painting was commissioned for devotion by the bishop of Fidenza Pier Grisologo Basetti
