'Saint Valentine's Day. The Post Mistress'

1816

The Postal Museum
London, United Kingdom

A black and white mezzotint of three women, one seated and two standing, in the General Post Office. One woman is peeking in a letter while the two others watch on, the seated woman scolding her with a lifted finger. A door and two figures are in the right background. This mezzotint is a scene of Mrs Heukbane, Mrs Shortcake and Mrs Mailsetter from Chapter 15 of Sir Walter Scott's 1816 The Antiquary. The text on the wall behind them is a quotation from that text.
