London, United Kingdom

DPG40 and DPG40A are modelli for the outer sides of the wings of the altarpiece of the Raising of the Cross commissioned from Rubens for the church of St Walburga, Antwerp in 1610 (now in Antwerp Cathedral). In the final paintings the mitres of the male saints are held above by cherubs. A drawing related to DPG40, in which this change already appears, is at the Courtauld Institute (Prince's Gate Collection).
