Sake cup with maki-e design of Nihonbashi Bridge

This wine cup is considered to be one of a set of three cups with different sizes. It is embellished with maki-e (sprinkled metal decoration) on the vermilion lacquered interior. In the foreground is Nihonbashi Bridge and Kosatsu-ba (a place where the sings announcing edicts are set up). Mt. Fuji and Edo Castle in the distance.
The details of the creator, Koryusai’s are unknown. He was likely a 19th-century maki-e artist in Edo (modern Tokyo), specializing in decorating inro cases.
