The hydroelectric plant is located on the bank of the Tambre river and is supplied by the Barrié de la Maza reservoir.
It was promoted by the Galician Electricity Society and is considered the first large consumption industrial exploitation in Galicia. The building was designed in 1924 by the architect Antonio Palacio.
