L.V.ca. 1720

Museu de São Roque

Museu de São Roque
Lisboa, Portugal

Type of salver which fits in the current typology developed in Portugal from the end of the 17th century on, which is characterized by a profusion of vegetal and zoomorphic elements. The motifs are distributed in concentric circles starting at the central medallion, a scheme which was previously used in plates of the fifteen hundreds. The medallion, surrounded by two rings of waves and a cord of laurel, presents a curious scene made up of two monkeys, an oriental knight and his page.
