Samuel Taylor served on the aircraft carrier Intrepid during two Vietnam War deployments, or WESTPAC cruises, in 1966 and 1967. He was an aviation machinist’s mate. In 1966, he served on the flight deck. For the 1967 cruise, he was reassigned to the engine shop.
Taylor was an avid photographer, and he amassed a large collection of slides taken with a camera he purchased in Japan. His collection captures the crew at work on the ship and on liberty in ports of call. This photograph shows Taylor on Intrepid’s flight deck, wearing the dungarees that were the crew’s standard work uniform.
