After independence, the dress of New Granada was influenced by the fashion of Paris and England, showing the ever-growing detachment from colonial regime and adopting a Romanticism style from Europe.

Woman from the elite between 1820 –1830 had no desire to dress in a similar fashion to Spanish woman, explaining the adoption of styles from England and Paris, with wider skirt and prominent waistlines, also from the popularization of the balloon sleeves.
