Based on 'Samson and Delilah' by Sir Anthony van Dyck, DPG127 in Dulwich Picture Gallery. This contemporary interpretation retains van Dyck's strong diagonal and his flowing lines of fabric, and incorporates the scared yet fascinated eyes of the onlookers. Shillinglaw uses colour symbolically, red for drama, danger, violence and broken hearts.
