Samuel Butler's Son in Character as Caractacus

We do not have any images of Samuel Butler, the actor manager of the Georgian Theatre Royal from when it opened in 1788 until his death in 1812. However, we do have some portraits of his son, also called Samuel (1803-1845). In this coloured theatre print, published by W. S. Johnson of 60 St Martin's Lane, London, he is shown as Caractacas the British Chieftain. Caractacus is the subject of a play by William Mason from 1776.
