This ukiyo-e print depicts the samurai Kagehisa. Itō Ittōsai Kagehisa (1560–1653) was a famous yet mysterious Japanese samurai, who was said to have never lost a duel. He is considered the founder of the Ittō-ryū (“one sword” or “one strike”) school of sword fighting.
