Here, O'Sullivan's darkroom wagon and his footprints back and forth between it and his camera are carefully considered elements of the overall composition. The result is far from a simple record of a landscape: it is a suggestion of the fleeting human presence-his own-within a landscape that is itself unstable and shifting.
