Tournament veteran Sandra Smisek played in four Women’s World Cups for Germany, as well as the 1996 Olympic Games.

She was capable of playing in the midfield and as a striker, notching up 34 international goals in 133 appearances between 1995 and 2003.

At the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Smisek featured in all of Germany’s games right the way through to their quarter-final defeat to the United States. She scored her only goal of the tournament in the 6-0 triumph over Mexico.

She would go on to help Germany win the World Cup in 2003 and defend it four years later. Sandra was also part of the side that won the Women's European Championships on no fewer than three occasions (1997, 2001 and 2005).
