This stylishly elegant statue represents Sappho as poetess and tormentedly brooding lover with appropriate attributes; Two billing doves, myrtle leaves, ewer and libation cup, lyre and a scroll inscribed in Greek with the last stanza of her 'Ode to Aphrodite'. Louise Colet, the French writer, was the model for this figure.
