Sarah Bernhardt as Fédora in the third act of the play of the same name by Victorien Sardou. Appeared in `L_Art et la Mode` in 1883. Due to its informal character the déshabillé or house frock was worn at home. Sarah Bernhardt counted among the customers of the exclusive fashion house of Charles Frederick Worth. Worth sketched a déshabillé, worn by Bernhardt in the third act of Sardous’s 1883 “Fédora”, that strongly resembles the house frock in the collection of the Kunstgewerbemuseum (Inv. no. 2003,KR 399).
