Sarah and Adelaide Yates met Chang and Eng Bunker at the North Carolina wedding of mutual friends in 1838. The Bunkers then courted the teenaged girls with flute serenades and romantic declarations. Adelaide had to break down Sally’s reluctance but the nuptials were finally held in 1843. During their 31 years of marriage, Sarah and Adelaide produced a total of 21 children. On the left is Sarah Yates ("Sally") next to her husband, Eng, and son Albert. On the right is Adelaide Yates with Chang and their son Patrick Henry.
