The upper section of the sarcophagus lid depicts the Homeric scene of Ulysses and the Sirens, referring to the sad destiny of the deceased, portrayed on the right, framed in a garment whose edges are held by two cupids. The inscription is dedicated by Marcus Aurelius Iulianus to his son, the young equestrian Marcus Aurelius Romanus, dead 17 years old. Mid 3rd century AD
