A variety of fabulous creatures are depicted here merrily crossing the water: the central figure is a Triton (half man, half fish) with a graceful Nereid – a daughter of the sea god Nereus − riding on his back. We also see a horned sea monster, a flying Amor, and a dolphin with another Amor figure on his back. The piece was part of a sarcophagus.
