This screen batik originated from Kelantan and was produced around 1990. The body of this fabric is decorated with paku pakis motif, while the motif of pucuk rebung and bunga raya adorn the head part of the fabric. To add to the beauty of the fabric, the bunga rotan motif is used as a decoration on the pengapit kepala.
The batik has long been part of the culture of the Archipelago, including Malaysia. Batik is a fabric that that has bright and attractive patterns and there are several batik making techniques used in this country, among them are batik tulis or lukis, batik skrin, batik celup and batik terap.
Batik skrin or also known as batik sutera saring refers to the method or technique of producing patterns and applying colour on a screen made of polyester fabric. The screen is held onto a white cloth and the colouring process on the pattern using the sekuji is repeated several times with different patterns to get a complete batik design. The batik skrin technique is used to produce sarung fabric.
