Batik sutera saring fabric (skrin) was produced in Kelantan around 1990. The body of this cloth is decorated with flora motif, while the head part of the cloth is decorated with ros (roses). The additional motifs (isen-isen) used enhanced the beauty of this batik fabric. In this country, there are several techniques used in the production of batik, including batik terap (block), batik sutera saring (skrin), batik tulis or lukis and batik celup.
The production of batik sutera saring which is also known as batik skrin or batik stensil, uses pattern sketching and colour application techniques done on the screen made of polyester, gauze or silk fabric stretched on a wooden frame or metal. Lacquer is used to draw the desired batik pattern on the screen. Usually, the size of a frame is measured where a piece of sarung fabric is between 2.25 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. To complete the process of making batik skrin fabric, a few pieces of frames with different designs are required and each frame is used for one colour only. The complete skrin is held onto a white cloth and the colouring process on the pattern using the sekuji will be repeated several times with different patterns to get a complete batik pattern.
