Around the World in 80 Days was a popular movie released in 1956. Two of Carl Sandburg's close friends from CBS were involved in the project; Fred Friendly and Edward R. Murrow, who narrated the prologue. This satchel, was a gift to Carl Sandburg, a world traveler himself, from Fred Friendly. "He was a folksinger in motion," Friendly remembered, "a poet, an historian, a lover of America. Like his resonant voice, his life and work resonated with the American experience." (Niven, p633)
