Scarlet O'Hara Sweep

Born and raised in Jamaica, Carlos Lewis moved to New York to study dress design at New York City's Fashion Institute of Technology, where he was introduced to millinery. Carlos NY Hats was founded in 1980 and caters to celebrities and churchwomen. Carlos also produces custom designs for private clientele. This confection of florals and tulle features embellishment in spray paint. The hat is over the top, and echoes the decadence and exclusion of the antebellum south, embodied by the character of Scarlet O'Hara.
