Scene in a Parisian Brasserie

Like the Impressionists, the Fauve Émile-Othon Friesz also painted scenes in Parisian cafés and brasseries. As in the earlier compositions of this genre, the three guests sit isolated at the table, as though they had nothing to do with each other. The choice of discordant colors seems as disconcerting as the apathetic meeting. The chandelier that is reflected in the mirror emphasizes the woman in the center who wears a red hat and provocatively stares out of the picture.
