This tile depicts John Greenleaf Whittier's birthplace at Haverhill, Massachusetts. American Quaker poet and abolitionist Whittier (1807-1892) wrote 'Snowbound' his most famous poem in 1866. Douglass and his wife, Helen, attended Whittier's funeral. Whittier was one of Douglass' favorite poets.
