The box-shaped bottle is made of reddish, glazed clayand was shaped with the help of a mould. Both sides are decorated with relief-type portrayals of St George, the patron saint of farmers and their livestock, amongst others. When decorated in this manner, such objects of utility mostly came to be included in northern Bulgarian households as wedding presents, or at other festive occa- sions. They were not used in everyday life, but adorned the parlours of the farmhouses instead.
